Digicel Group spends 450 million dollars for submarine optic

Caribbean telecommunication operator Digicel Group revealed a recent plan. They would spend 450 million dollars to construct a submarine cable system, connecting up to 40 Caribbean countries.

“Our initial plan was to spend 350 million dollars to build a submarine cable system, connecting 30 countries in this area. But now, we are planning to expand our investment to 450 million dollars, connecting near 40 countries.” Bloomberg News cited Digicel Group directors board president Denis O’Brien’s word.

Denis O’Brien said, the new cable system construction aimed to further improve Caribbean area’s internet infrastructure.

And he revealed, this investment would be private project and independent of other group’s business.

Nowadays, Digicel Group has many submarine cable systems in Caribbean, Central America and Asian-Pacific regions, offering service to 31 countries and regions.
