Ciena declared recently that it had cooperated with Aqua Comms to have 150Gbps 8QAM modulated commission trial. The trial was based on Aqua Comms’ America-Europe AEConnect system.

150G 8QAM technology will help the across-the-Atlantic submarine cable system’s capacity improve more than 50%, while improve its spectrum efficiency and commission distance.

AEConnect submarine cable system connects New York and London through Ireland. The total length is 5400km. It bases on Ciena’s device and has been planned to have 13Tbps capacity.

This trial uitilized Ciena’s WaveLogic 3 Extreme processor technology.

Aqua Comms said its network was designed to fulfill content providers, cloud operators and data centers’ unique application and business demand.

This test showed Ciena’s devices’ ability to catch up present and future demand of network developing. The company considered submarine cable network investment to be more and more important as global data businesses increase swiftly.

It also showed Aqua Comms’ ability to easily adjust its long-distance transmission capacity.
