Ovum: There will be 2900 users of G.fast broadband in 2021

Apr 03, 2018

A report from Ovum shows that the number of broadband families using G.fast connection, which can offer 500Mbps transmission, will reach 2.9 million.

NBN and BT indicate they adopt G.fast technology in order to fully use the existed network infrastructure to provide more bandwidth and higher capacity, making it competitive with FTTP network, which is much more expensive.

Ovum says because of EU commission’s plan of make 50% families be able to enjoy at least 100Mbps network by 2020, Western Europe market is going to be more active in deploying G.fast. More than 11% broadband service is predicted to adopt G.fast in five years.

BT, Swisscom, DT, TelekomAustria and Proximus’ share 45% of Western European users.

Other regional markets may be less active in deploying G.fast. Their adoption rate of G.fast is expected to be 1% to 4%.

Except for FTTP, the other competitor of G.fast is DOCSIS 3.2. HFC company uses it to achieve 1Gbps on existed wired TV line.
